Budapest to Prague via Keszthely, Vienna, Bratislava, Cracow and Wieliczka. A 4-day journey to Europe's Imperial cities and palaces

Day 1 - Budapest to Keszthely

The Danube Express Mid morning reception in the Royal Waiting Room at Budapest Nyugati station before boarding the Danube Express. Lunch is served as the train heads south west and skirts the southern shore of Lake Balaton. Arriving in Keszthely at the western end of the Lake, there is a visit to the Baroque Festetics Palace, one of the largest in Hungary. During dinner, the train continues towards the Austrian border.

Day 2 - Vienna & Bratislava

Wake near Vienna and after breakfast, a tour of this dazzling city takes you along the Ringstrasse past such architectural gems as the State Opera, the Hofburg, Parliament, City Hall, National Theatre and Votive Church as well as many beautiful parks. The highlight is a visit to Schönbrunn Palace, the former summer residence of the Hapsburgs. Back on board, lunch is served as the train heads towards Slovakia and crosses the Danube. In Bratislava, the capital city, a tour will include the Old Town and the stunning castle perched high above the city on a hill overlooking the Danube. Later, relax with a drink before dinner as the journey continues through the attractive mountain scenery of the Slovakian countryside en route to the Polish border.

Day 3 - Cracow & Wieliczka

Lounge CarArrive in Cracow where a morning tour evokes a colourful past and includes the Old Town with its medieval Market Square and magnificent Cloth Hall as well as Wawel Castle. In St Mary's Church, see the elaborate ornamentation and gilded gothic altarpiece by Veit Stoss. After lunch in a local restaurant, travel by coach to Weiliczka to cisit one of the world's oldest salt mines, operational from medieval times until the end of the 20th century. Now a World Heritage site, its galleries display artworks sculpted in the salt. During dinner, the Danube Express heads west towards the Czech border and overnight to Prague.

Day 4 - Prague

Arrive after breakfast in the fabulous city of Prague and bid farewell to the Danube Express.
