At Ffestiniog Travel, our passion for railways is about much more than timetables and destinations – it is about history, landscape, engineering and the communities who keep these remarkable lines alive.  In 2026 we are excited to once again champion some of Europe’s finest heritage and steam railways with an inspiring collection of escorted tours designed especially for enthusiasts and curious travellers alike.

We are offering an exceptional range of holidays across Germany, Austria and the Czech Republic, each combining classic steam, narrow-gauge railways and rich cultural experiences - all expertly guided by our UK tour leaders.

Our season begins with the ever-popular Dresden Steam Festival. This 8-day tour centres on one of Europe’s most loved steam celebrations, with time to enjoy festival highlights before travelling on historic lines like the Weißeritztalbahn and Lößnitzgrundbahn, plus a scenic paddle steamer cruise along the Elbe. Departing 9 April 2026, this tour includes accommodation, rail travel, excursions, selected meals and expert leadership from £1,895 per person.

Next, the Harz Explorer celebrates the world-famous Harzer Schmalspurbahnen narrow-gauge network. Over three full days of steam travel through the Harz Mountains’ superb scenery, you’ll enjoy unforgettable journeys and guided excursions. Departing 30 May 2026, prices start from £1,665 per person.

For those who love a longer adventure, our Narrow Gauge in Bohemia & Lower Austria tour blends German, Czech and Austrian lines into a 15-day discovery of charming rural railways and landscapes. Departing 11 June 2026, this immersive trip starts from £2,645 per person and includes an InterRail pass, excursions and expert guidance throughout.

Later this year we are also runing a trio of specialist tours that showcase the very best of Central European railways:

• Behind the Scenes in Central Europe takes you off the beaten track to explore hidden railway gems and remarkable engineering feats, combining history with spectacular scenery and exclusive visits not found on regular tours.
