Christmas & New Year in Switzerland

Monday 22 December 2014 to Friday 02 January 2015

Magical wintry scenes offer a wonderful backdrop to this holiday. Our annual visit over the festive season is one of our firm favourites.  Experience the freedom of having your own travel pass to do as you wish during the day but at the same time having the company of your fellow travellers.

Day 1 – Wilderswil and the Bernese Oberland

We begin this tour by departing on Eurostar early morning from London St Pancras to Paris, then onwards by TGV to Basle. Standard class travel with reserved seats. Leaving Basle for the final leg of the journey we will be travelling in first class using the unlimited travel pass provided.

We will be made very welcome at the Hotel Bären where we have a 6-night stay on half board basis. On Christmas Eve the hotel will serve a special buffet.

Days 2 to 6 – Free time with an abundance of choice

Free days based in Wilderswil with your Swiss Pass.  The ticket covers trains, trams and post buses so there is something for everyone. Even at this time of the year you will find a lake steamer running! Your experienced tour leader will be offering an escorted excursion every day but if you prefer to be independent they will offer guidance with planning and timings. Prior to the holiday we will supply a comprehensive list to give you some suggestions to consider.

Today we move from the mountains of the Bernese Oberland and travel via the Golden Pass route to Lucerne, nestling on the shores of the lake of the same name.  The Hotel Waldstätterhof  is conveniently situated close to the station. We stay here for 5 nights on a bed and breakfast basis but in addition we include dinner in the hotel on New Year’s Day and dinner on the lake on New Year’s Eve (Silvestre Spaghettata Cruise).

Days 8 to 11 – Leisure Time

Lucerne in Winter © Switzerland Tourism swiss-image.ch/Emanuel AmmonLucerne is in an excellent position for exploring the local area, or even further afield using your Swiss Pass. Do take time however to stroll through the wonderful old town area which is reached by using the famous Kapellbrücke – Chapel Bridge – over the River Reuss.  Your tour leader will again offer an optional escorted excursion every day.  The only commitment you have during these free days is to be back in time for the two evening meals which are included in the cost of the holiday.

Day 12 – London

Leave after breakfast on a local train to Basel where we join the TGV to Paris.  In Paris we connect with the Eurostar service to London St Pancras, arriving late afternoon. Travel from Basel back to London is in standard class with reserved seats.

The tour price is currently set at £2,210, but we must emphasise that this is a guide price only and subject to change as the exchange rate will not be set until 1st May 2014.
