Christmas & New Year in Switzerland

Friday 20 December 2013 to Thursday 2 January 2014

Celebrate the festive season in the idyllic setting of Switzerland in winter. Your travel pass allows you the freedom to do as you wish during the day whilst having the company of fellow travellers.

Day 1 - To Basle

Leaving from London St Pancras on a mid-morning Eurostar to Paris, then by TGV to Basle for an overnight stay. Standard class travel with reserved seats.

Day 2 - Bernese Oberland

Basel Christmas Market - © Switzerland TourismA free morning in Basle to explore this wonderful city. The extensive tram network is the way to get around and your travel pass is valid for this. When we leave in the early afternoon to Wilderswil, in the Bernese Oberland region, we will be travelling in first class using our Swiss Pass. The Hotel Bären is where we have a 7-night stay on half board and we will be made very welcome. There is also a special evening buffet included on Christmas Eve.

Days 3 to 8 - Leisure Time

Train to Kleine Scheidegg (available from Widerswil) - © Swiss Travel SystemFree days based in Wilderswil with your first class Swiss Pass. The hotel is situated in the centre of the village about seven minutes walk from the station. There is also a regular bus service from outside the hotel direct to Interlaken West station. Your pass covers trains, trams and post buses so there is something for everyone. Your experienced tour leader will offer an optional excursion each day but the day to day plan will depend on the wishes of the group and the weather. Our comprehensive excursion list will be provided to give you some suggestions and if you wish to be independent your tour leader will be happy to help with timings and planning.

Day 9 - Glacier Express

Glacier Express - © Switzerland Travel CentreToday we travel via the Glacier Express to Chur, a scenic journey at any time of the year! From Chur we continue to Rapperswil for a 5-night stay on a bed and breakfast basis. Hotel Speer is situated very conveniently opposite the station. We include dinner on New Year’s Day at a nearby restaurant.

Days 10 and 11 - Leisure Time

Rapperswil - © Liz TurnerWith your Swiss Pass you can explore the numerous branch lines in the area. There will be an optional excursion offered each day again dependent on the wishes of the group and the weather.

We have arranged to have dinner in the dining car on the train between St Moritz and Chur on the return journey. A three course meal is included but drinks are extra.

Day 13 - A Brand New Year!

A chance to celebrate your last full day in this wonderful setting. Again there will be an optional excursion on offer.
