Swiss Rail Adventure
This is a tour in which the pleasures of steam train travel are enhanced by their location. Lovers of rail travel, culture and nature will delight in the diversity of the locations and stunning scenery that Switzerland has in abundance.
The Western Isles of Scotland
We travel the length of the Outer Hebrides before journeying eastwards to the Isle of Skye; a land of silken moors, jagged mountains, sparkling lochs and soaring sea cliffs. On the mainland, we combine iconic rail journeys such as the Jacobite steam train to Mallaig, the Kyle of Lochalsh and the newly re-opened Borders Railway, with some of Scotland's cultural jewels.
Ghent and Flanders Fields
A relaxed 5-day escorted tour to Ghent, Belgium’s best kept secret. Includes a steam railway excursion and a trip to Ypres to visit In Flanders Fields Museum and Menin Gate. Free time also to explore independently with your InterRail pass.
Boppard & the Rhine in Flames
Stay in the Rhine Gorge town of Boppard and enjoy daily excursions including a paddle boat river cruise to Rüdesheim and a scenic rail trip through the Lahn Valley to Limburg. We also spend an evening in St Goar at the spectacular Rhine in Flames festival.
Moldova and Eastern Romania
For such a small country, Moldova offers an amazing diversity both in terms of culture and political outlook. This is where the ideologies of Lenin and the democracies of Western Europe still face each other across the Dniester River and where the standard gauge trains of the west meet the broad gauge of the east.
Ffestiniog Railway & Portmeirion Luxury Break
Relax and enjoy a quality stay at the famous Italianate Portmeirion Village, nestled alongside the beautiful North Wales coastline. Steam journeys on the Ffestiniog and Welsh Highland Railways will deliver wonderful views of the Welsh countryside and an expert guide will join you to provide some interesting background information.
Rural Romania – Where Time Stands Still
Relive a bygone age when rural life meant working fields with horses, stacking hay in haystacks and preparing meals from home grown produce. Visit remote Saxon villages with their fortified churches in Transylvania, enjoy village life in Maramureș and the painted monasteries of Bucovina. Stay in family run “homestay” accommodation and ride three steam narrow gauge railways.
The Golden Triangle and Ranthambore
A new tour to India that includes rail journeys on the spectacular Kangra Valley Railway and the ever popular Kalka Shimla Railway. We visit some of the country’s well known landmarks and go on safari at the famous Ranthambore National Park before spending time in the historic city of Jaipur.
Indian Hill Railways
Sunday 16 February to Friday 6 March 2020
Our successful annual tour to India which includes the three most exceptional railways that served the former British Hill Stations. Engineering excellence, fierce gradients and stunning scenery make for a memorable tour.
Uzbekistan and the Silk Road
Silks, spices and the story of Tamerlane’s conquests combine with some of the most beautiful cities in Central Asia. This unique tour affords an in-depth look into the history and culture of one of the smallest of the former USSR republics and is accompanied by both a Ffestiniog Travel tour leader and an experienced local guide.
