Journey through the Somme and Burgundy, sampling the railway delights en route. Our destination is southern France, known for its spectacular mountain scenery and famous little railways. We ride on the Little Yellow Train, the Train of Marvels and the Vivarais system.

This popular tour combines high speed rail with local and narrow-gauge lines that have survived the Cold War and are still operational. We stay in Dresden and Stralsund to ride nearby heritage railways, and of course charming Wernigerode to explore the scenic Harz Railway. We also include journeys on the Döllnitzbahn in Saxony.

This tour capitalises on France's annual Journées du Patrimoine (Heritage Days) when the public gain free access to the country's buildings, landmarks and monuments. It is an ideal time to visit one of the country's famous railway networks, the Vivarais.

Romanian speaking Moldova shares much of its culture with its larger neighbour, but having been absorbed into the USSR during much of the last Century, despite aspiring to join the EU, its Soviet past is evident. In railway terms, it is where the standard gauge trains of the West meet the broad gauge of the East.
