Tour itinerary

Our annual trip to sample the wonderful Christmas Markets at leisure. Full of tradition and atmosphere the second largest city in Bavaria, Nuremburg, hosts a grand Christmas Market well known throughout Europe.

Day 1 – Cologne

We take a mid-morning Eurostar from London St. Pancras International to Brussels where we connect with a high speed train to Cologne for a 1-night stay. Our hotel is located a short walk from the station building.

Day 2 – Bavaria & Nuremburg

Continue by train, travelling east to Nuremburg, arriving early afternoon. Our hotel is within walking distance of the station.

Day 3 – Jewel of the Romantic Road

A day at leisure, or join the tour leader on an optional excursion to Rothenburg ob der Tauber. This Medieval town is steeped in history and the strict preservation order placed on the town by the local council in 1902 means not much has changed since the 15th Century.

Day 4 – Neuenmarkt-Wirsberg Railway Museum

Optional excursion to Neuenmarkt-Wirsberg, home of one of Germany’s best railway museums displaying virtually all classes of engine in use at the end of the German steam era. The museum is situated in the old roundhouse loco shed which still retains the feel of a working depot. Travel to and from the museum is covered by your travel pass, however entry is paid locally.

Day 5 – Oberweissbacher Bergbahn & Schwarzatalbahn

Todays’s optional excursion is to the Oberweissbacher Bergbahn and Schwarzatalbahn, a funicular railway leading to an isolated line and the remote village of Cursdorf. (supplements payable locally).

Day 6 – Nuremberg at Leisure

Enjoy a free day in Nuremberg. The main Christmas Market is held in the Hauptmarkt, the central square in Nuremberg’s Old Town, and in adjoining squares and streets. Alternatively your rail pass is valid for travel further afield.

Day 7 – Bonn

To Bonn for our final overnight stay. Our hotel is ideally located adjacent to the station and the Christmas Market is located a short walk from the hotel.

Day 8 – Homeward Bound

A morning departure by high speed train via Cologne to Brussels to connect to the Eurostar service to London.
