Sitting on the Rhine, Strasbourg is the largest city in the Alsace region and the official seat of the European Parliament. In 1988 the historic city centre was granted UNESCO World Heritage status.

Day 1 – Via Lille to Strasbourg

We take a lunchtime Eurostar from London St. Pancras International through the channel tunnel to Lille Europe where we connect to a TGV for Strasbourg. Le Grand Hotel Strasbourg is ideally located opposite the station.

Day 2 – Reims, Champagne and Cathedral

Today we take a TGV from Strasbourg along the high speed line to Champagne Ardenne where we have a coach transfer into Reims. Upon arrival in Reims we visit the impressive Notre-Dame Cathedral where our English speaking guide enlightens us about its Gothic architecture. After a break for lunch we reconvene at the Mumm Champagne house where we learn about the Champagne making process, visit the Mumm Museum and of course taste some Champagne! We return to Strasbourg by train from Reims, making a change in Champagne Ardenne.

Day 3 – Strasbourg at Leisure

A free day today to explore Strasbourg at leisure. Whether you take a stroll through the timbered buildings of “La Petite France”, visit the modern Parliament building or explore the wine cellar situated under the city hospital the day is yours to explore.

Day 4 – The Rhine by Steam Train and Boat

This morning we take the TGV south to Mulhouse where we transfer by tram to the Cite du Train Museum, the largest railway museum in the world. Our English speaking guide will escort us round the museum. After a break for lunch we take a coach transfer to Volgelsheim where we find a lovingly restored station with a steam train simmering at the platform. Our journey takes us through the Alsatian Ried where upon arrival at the Sans-Soucis pier we board a sightseeing cruise on the Rhine river before reboarding our steam train to return to Volgesheim. We transfer to Colmar where we take a regional service back to Strasbourg.

Day 5 – Return Home via Lille

After a free morning we board a lunchtime TGV to Lille where we change to the Eurostar back to London arriving late afternoon.
