Thursday 6 September to Monday 10 September 2018
We return to the city of Namur, situated deep in the wooded hills of the Ardennes in the south of Belgium, for this 5-day long weekend break. We visit three of the Benelux countries and combine beautiful scenic journeys with visits to Luxembourg and Maastricht, including a trip on a steam train.
Day 1 – Eurostar to Belgium
A mid-morning train from St. Pancras with just one change in Brussels gives us a mid-afternoon arrival in Namur where we stay for 4 nights.
Day 2 – Luxembourg
A two hour train journey through the forest to Luxembourg, where there is time to explore its architectural landscape before returning to Namur.
Day 3 – Dinant and the River Meuse
Dinant – a lovely town reached after just half an hour by train, is situated in a deep gorge. Here we enjoy a river cruise and some free time to explore before returning to Namur.
Day 4 – The South Limburg Steam Train
With a change at Liège and Maastricht, we travel to Valkenburg to connect with the steam train excursion on the branch line to Simpleveld. We arrive back in Namur in the early evening.
Day 5 – Namur to London
A midday departure from Namur via Brussels, arriving St. Pancras in the afternoon.
