An incredible rail holiday that showcases the best of Argentina, Bolivia and Peru. Spectacular scenery, amazing train journeys including the Tren a las Nubes, Tren de las Sierras, Expresso del Sur and Titicaca Train and the famed train to the wondrous Inca site of Machu Picchu. Time to explore Buenos Aires, Cordoba, Salta, Uyuni, La Paz and Cusco.

ITINERARY

Day 1 – Flight to Buenos Aires

Fly from London to Buenos Aires

Day 2 – Arrive in Argentina

Morning arrival into Buenos Aires and transfer to our centrally located hotel for a 3-night stay. Time to freshen up before an afternoon visit to the Ferroclub Argentina, which boasts the best collection of preserved locomotives and rolling stock in the country.

Day 3 – Guided Sightseeing

Our tour takes us to the upmarket suburb of Recoleta where we visit the resting place of Eva Perón and San Telmo, the city's oldest neighbourhood which is home to quaint cobbled streets and antique shops.

Day 4 – Ride the Local Railways

Today a local guide will accompany us as we spend the day riding the local railways. Travel on three different gauges that run on old British style signaling, stations and infrastructure. Or you may wish to opt out and explore independently.

Day 5 – Train to Rosario

We have a leisurely morning before boarding the train to Rosario. On arrival we transfer to our hotel for 2 nights.

Day 6 – Sightseeing in Rosario

A morning guided sightseeing tour of Rosario, Argentina's second city, a port city rich in history and culture. Afternoon at Leisure.

Day 7 – To Villa Maria

Late morning departure as we continue by road to Villa Maria for a 1-night stay.

Day 8 – Train to Cordoba

An early morning departure by train to Cordoba, arriving in time for lunch. This afternoon we have a guided sightseeing tour not to be missed. We visit the historical centre, Jesuit Block, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and Sarmiento Park before transferring to our hotel for a 2-night stay.

Day 9 – Tren de las Sierras

Enjoy a wonderful return journey on the scenic line to Valle Hermoso with views of the Cordoba Mountains.

Day 10 – Fly to Salta

Morning at leisure before an afternoon flight to Salta for a 2-night stay.

Day 11 – Tren a las Nubes

Today we take the Tren a las Nubes train otherwise known as the ‘Train to the Clouds’, an astonishing journey reaching a height of 4,200m above sea level. We travel by coach to San Antonio de los Cobres before joining the train to the famous Porvorillos Viaduct in the high Andes

Day 12 – By Road to La Quiaca

An all day journey by coach climbing onto the Humahuaca Gorge (UNESCO World Heritage Site) and following the old railway to La Quiaca on the Bolivian frontier

Day 13 – Traveling into Bolivia

Morning at leisure before crossing into Bolivia to board the Expreso del Sur train, departing early afternoon. Late evening arrival into Uyuni for a 2-night stay.

Day 14 – Day in Uyuni

Late morning start for sightseeing to see the famous locomotive graveyard and other railway interest around Uyuni including Pulacayo.

Day 15 – Saler de Uyuni

An all day sightseeing tour to see the breathtaking Saler de Uyuni, the astonishing Salt Flats. We hope to arrange a picnic lunch on the wide open spaces of the Salt Flats. Overnight at a 'salt' hotel.

Day 16 – To La Paz

Morning flight to La Paz and transfer to our hotel for a 2-night stay and an afternoon at leisure.

Day 17 – Guided Sightseeing

A full day’s sightseeing that includes the famous Witches Market, Murillo Square, Basilica of San Francisco and the spectacular Valley of the Moon.

Day 18 – Lake Titicaca & Copacabana

We journey to Lake Titicaca and continue to Copacabana where we board a catamaran cruise to Sun Island, the legendary birthplace of the Inca Empire. We continue by road to Puno for an overnight stay.

Day 19 – Puno on the Shores of Lake Titicaca

Morning cruise on Lake Titicaca visiting the Uros floating reed islands and afternoon at leisure.

Day 20 – Titicaca Train to Cusco

Experience a spectacular journey onboard the deluxe Titicaca Train to Cusco across the high Altiplano. The train has an observation carriage providing excellent views over the Andean wilderness. Lunch will be served onboard. On arrival in Cusco we will be transferred to our hotel for a 3-night stay.

Day 21 – Former Capital of the Inca Empire

A half day guided sightseeing tour visiting the archeological site at Sacsayhuaman overlooking the city. Free afternoon to explore the city independently on foot (or with the tour leader).

Day 22 – Machu Picchu

Morning train to Aguas Calientes and transfer to Machu Picchu. We have a guided tour of this spectacular ancient city before returning to Cusco by train.

Day 23 – Fly to Lima

At leisure in Cusco before flying to Lima for an overnight stay.

Days 24 & 25 – Fly Home

Early morning flight to London, arriving next day.

NB. Please note we are aiming to include the Tren a las Nubes and Expreso del Sur trains. If there are operational issues we will provide alternative rail journeys where possible.
