An exciting rail tour to South East Asia. We have combined the exotic destinations of Vietnam and Cambodia with their iconic cultural sites, ancient history and renowned hospitality. This is a truly wonderful tour that takes in five UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
Day 1 – London to Hanoi
We take an overnight flight from London to Hanoi.
Day 2 – Arrive Hanoi
Morning arrival into Hanoi where we are met by an English speaking guide for the transfer to our hotel. Rest of the day at leisure to relax or explore Vietnam’s capital city. Welcome dinner this evening.
Day 3 – Sightseeing Tour of Hanoi
We have a full day’s guided tour including a cyclo trip around Hoan Kiem Lake and the Old Quarter plus a Water Puppet Show with lunch included.
Day 4 – Hai Phong and Ha Long
We depart Hanoi by train to Ha Phong before continuing by road to Ha Long where we board our sailing junk. We have lunch and dinner included before we overnight on board in private cabins.
Day 5 – Return to Hanoi
Our journey on the junk boat continues to the next stop at Luon Cave. Lunch is served on the return sailing to Ha Long before we transfer by road back to Hanoi for an evening at leisure.
Day 6 – By Train to Hue
Depart Hanoi on a full day’s train journey to Hue. Transfer on arrival by road to our hotel.
Day 7 – City Tour by Boat and Cyclo
Morning cruise on the Perfume River with a short walk to the Thien Mu Pagoda which overlooks the river. We take lunch at a local restaurant before visiting the Royal Tombs.
Day 8 – Hue to Hoi An
Today we continue by train to Danang on one of Vietnam’s most beautiful stretches of railway. Winding through thick, verdant landscapes, the train emerges onto a dramatic coastline where the steep mountains tumble down to the pristine beaches fringing the South China Sea. From Danang we continue by road to Hoi An for a 2-night stay, stopping en route at the Marble Mountains. This evening is free for you to enjoy the famous Hoi An Lantern Festival
Day 9 – Ancient Hoi An
Hoi An’s ancient town is an example of a well preserved trading port dating from the 15th to 19th Centuries. Its buildings reflect the influences, both indigenous and foreign, giving this town its UNESCO World Heritage status. This morning we visit the old Tan Ky House, the famous Japanese Covered Bridge and the stylish Phuc Kien Assembly Hall. Afternoon return to Hoi An.
Day 10 – Hoi An to Nha Trang
We have a full day’s journey by train to Nha Trang, arriving late evening and transfer by road to our hotel for the night.
Day 11 – Nha Trang to Dalat
Morning at leisure before we transfer by road to Dalat for a 2-night stay.
Day 12 – Dalat City Tour
We start our day by visiting Bao Dai Palace, Truc Lam and Crazy House. We take lunch locally before departing Dalat by train to visit Ve Chai Pagoda.
Day 13 – By Train to Saigon
This morning we transfer by road to Tap Cham station where we join the train for Saigon. On arrival we will be transferred to our hotel for an evening at leisure to enjoy the city.
Day 14 – Mekong Delta
We take a boat trip from Cai Be through the floating market and secluded canals. We stop for lunch then head onto the mighty Mekong River itself. We stop on one of the river islands to visit the local orchards before returning to our hotel late afternoon.
Day 15 – Goodbye Vietnam, Hello Cambodia
Morning sightseeing tour of Saigon including the bustling Cho Lon Market and Notre Dame Cathedral before transferring to the airport for our flight to Phnom Penh. On arrival we are transferred to our hotel for an overnight stay.
Day 16 – Train to Sihanoukville
We journey by train from Phnom Penh to Sihanoukville. After checking into our hotel, the rest of the afternoon is free to explore some of Cambodia's best known beaches.
Day 17 – Fly to Siem Riep & Angkor Area
Transfer to the airport for a morning flight to Siem Riep. We start our exploration of the Angkor area this afternoon with visits to Roulos, Preah Ko and Bakong, the first temple mountain constructed by the Khmer empire at Angkor.
Day 18 – Angkor Thom,Ta Prohm & Angkor Wat
We visit the West Gate of Angkor Thom, Angkor Thom South Gate, Bayon Temple and Baphuon Temple. After lunch we continue to the fabulous Ta Prohm, an UNESCO World Heritage site, before visiting the spectacular temple of Angkor Wat.
Day 19 – Banteay Srei & Home
Today we visit Banteay Srei. The special charm of this temple lies in its small stature, remarkable state of preservation and the excellence of its decorative carvings. We continue with a visit to Banteay Samre’s rose-coloured sandstone walls decorated with carvings and bas-reliefs. Return to the hotel, with lunch en route, for a leisurely afternoon before transferring to the airport for our flight home. Return to our hotel for a farewell dinner.
Day 20 – Arrive London
We arrive back in London this morning.
