Tour itinerary
A Christmas Market tour that heads to Norway and combines festive shopping and rail/ferry excursions in awe inspiring landscapes. Discover the enchanting beauty on an unforgettable festive rail tour.
Day 1 – London to Bergen
Fly from London to Bergen. Our centrally located hotel provides an excellent base to explore the city’s Christmas Markets, many museums and historical sites. We stay in Bergen for 3 nights; a welcome dinner is included this evening.
Day 2 – Christmas Markets
A day at leisure to explore Bergen and it’s Christmas Markets at Festplassen, offering handmade Christmas gifts, local treats and a festive atmosphere. Bergen Christmas Market is the ideal place to get into the Christmas spirit.
Day 3 – Bergen Mostraumen Fjord Cruise
Today we take a 4-hour fjord cruise from Bergen to the scenic Osterfjord and Mostraumen Channel. You will experience the magnificent landscape of Bergen's nearby fjords and the Nordhordland region. When sailing out from Bergen's inner harbour you will view some of the oldest and most relevant historical sites in the city, including the medieval fortress Bergenhus, St Mary's Church and the colourful Bryggen Hanseatic Wharf, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. We travel through a maze of islands, deep fjords and beautiful waterfalls. The evening is free to explore the Christmas Markets once again.
Day 4 – Bergen to Flam
After breakfast we travel on the Flam Railway, considered to be one of the world’s most beautiful train rides. After leaving our luggage at the hotel we will have a guided tour of the Flam Railway Museum, followed by a cruise on the Naeroyfjord. The narrow and spectacular Naeroyfjord is surrounded by steep valley sides and snow-covered peaks that rise1,800m above sea level, with thundering waterfalls and picturesque villages along the fjord. Regardless of the season, a cruise on the Naeroyfjord will be an unforgettable experience. Return to Flam by road for an evening at leisure.
Day 5 – Flam to Oslo
Today we travel from Flam to Oslo, a ‘must do’ rail journey when visiting Norway, taking you through picturesque villages and stunning scenery. Check in at the hotel for a 3-night stay and the rest of the day is at leisure.
Day 6 – Oslo City Sightseeing Bus Tour
A morning guided bus tour of Oslo including The Royal Palace, Oslo Old Town with Akershus Fortress, Opera House, the new Munch Museum, Oslo Cathedral, National Museum, Aker Brygge, Nobel Institute and Frogner Park. We continue to the Norwegian Folk Museum with its impressive outdoor collection of old Norwegian houses and the Flam Museum, where you will learn about Norwegian polar expeditions. Evening at leisure.
Day 7 – Oslo Christmas Markets
The Christmas Market takes place on Oslo’s main high street, Karl Johans Gate, a mere stone’s throw from the Royal Palace. The market features delightful food stalls, skating rink and Ferris wheel. We have a farewell dinner at our hotel this evening.
Day 8 – Return to London
After a leisurely breakfast we catch our mid-afternoon flight to London.
