Majestic mountains, shimmering lakes and tiny alpine villages all await you on this classic one week escorted break to the very best of the Swiss Alps. Your stay for the duration will be in a village hotel full of character and within easy reach of the surrounding area for you to explore with your Swiss Travel Pass.

Day 1 – London to the Heart of Switzerland

Your tour leader will meet you at St. Pancras to board the Eurostar and begin the journey that will take you via Paris to Basle and onward to Wilderswil, a small resort village just outside Interlaken. Arrive in time for evening meal at our centrally-located hotel for a 7-night stay.

Day 2 – Mountaineering Made Easy

A wonderful excursion by train to Grindelwald, where we take the mountain railway to Kleine Scheidegg for impressive views of the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau. Return via Wengen and Lauterbrunnen.

Day 3 – Lucerne

Our train skirts lovely Lake Brienz and climbs over the Brünig Pass to reach the lakeside city of Lucerne where there is free time to explore the colourful ‘old town’ reached by the iconic Kapellbrücke (Chapel Bridge). It’s spired, turreted buildings depict the storybook image of a Swiss town.

Day 4 – Lake Thun

Cruise the length of Lake Thun to the city of the same name. Free time to visit Castle Thun, dating back to the 12th Century, as well as the museums and many cafes and restaurants along Aarequai before returning by train.

Day 5 – Day at Leisure

All excursions by train, lake steamer, postbus or city bus are free of charge with your Swiss Travel Pass (the only exceptions being railways up mountains and cable cars where a discount is offered). Your tour leader will help plan your trips.

Day 6 – Zermatt

Full day escorted excursion to Zermatt at the foot of the famous Matterhorn.

Day 7 – The Brienzer Rothorn

By train to Brienz then mountain railway to the Rothorn Summit for amazing views of the whole area. Return from Brienz by lake steamer to Interlaken.

Day 8 – Via Basle and Paris to London

By fast TGV from Basle to Paris and Eurostar to London makes for a late afternoon arrival.
