Berlin becomes a magical place at Christmas when colourful market stalls light up its districts. As well as Christmas shopping, this unescorted holiday provides ample opportunities for sightseeing in Amsterdam, Hamburg and Cologne.

Itinerary

Day 1 – Travel to Amsterdam

Travel by direct Eurostar to Amsterdam (your choice of early or mid-morning departure) for a 1-night stay, with time this afternoon and evening to explore charming Amsterdam and its ‘Ice*Village’. Each year from 13th - 26th of December, Amsterdam’s famous Museumplein transforms into a delightful Christmas village, complete with ice rink, live entertainment, market stalls and plenty of festive food and drink to keep you warm.

Day 2 – On to Berlin

This morning, travel by comfortable direct InterCity train to Berlin for a 3-night stay, arriving mid-afternoon. Your hotel is conveniently located near Berlin Hauptbahnhof, and you will have free use of Berlin’s public transport system for the duration of your stay.

Day 3 – Hamburg Day Trip

Use your InterRail Pass for a 2-hour train ride to the port city of Hamburg. Spend the day in the UNESCO World Heritage city enjoying the wonderful atmosphere of Hamburg’s ‘Winterwald’ Christmas market or visit the Miniatur Wunderland - which boasts the largest collection of model railways and miniature airports in the world.

Day 4 – Christmas Markets

A full day to explore the wealth of Christmas markets scattered around each of Berlin’s districts. ‘Winterwelt’, located at Potsdamer Platz, is deemed a favourite by Berliners - with Alexanderplatz’s Christmas market a close second. Don’t forget to have a glass of traditional Glühwein to warm you up!

Day 5 – Cologne

Travel by high-speed ICE service to Cologne for a 1-night stay. An early afternoon arrival grants ample time to enjoy the Christmas market in front of the impressive backdrop of Cologne’s gothic landmark, the Cathedral. Should time allow, an optional Rhine Christmas River cruise is possible, which is sure to capture the festive spirit!

Day 6 – Homeward Bound

A morning departure by high speed ICE from Cologne to Brussels for the Eurostar service back to London.
