A wonderful opportunity to be a passenger on the aptly named Snowdonian train as it takes its annual 80 mile round trip through the glorious Snowdonia National Park. The journey will cover the full length of both the Welsh Highland and Ffestiniog Railways in one day. To add more interest to this scenic journey, the Snowdonian will be hauled by a variety of motive power. Don’t leave it too late to reserve your seat as this is a popular event and places will be limited. For a taste of what you can expect take a look at this great video that captured the journey made by the Snowdonian through North Wales' scenic National Park.

Why not make this a luxury break by staying at the famous Italianate Portmeirion Village, nestled alongside the beautiful North Wales coastline.  A stunning location from which to enjoy the Snowdonian and the scenic Ffestiniog and Welsh Highland Railways.

For a flavour of what you can expect read this blog by Gordon Rushton, who campaigned to get The Snowdonian train back on Welsh tracks.

Day 1 – Boston Lodge

Travel to Porthmadog (we can arrange and add rail tickets to your package). After checking into your hotel we will meet at Porthmadog Harbour Station at 16.45pm to travel up the line to Boston Lodge for a comprehensive 2.5 hour guided tour. This will be followed by an optional evening meal in Spooners at Harbour Station, or choose to arrange to have a meal at your hotel (where available).

Day 2 – The Snowdonian

The Snowdonian will depart Porthmadog's Harbour Station at around 0915 and will return by 1915. You are guaranteed a full day’s journey as you travel through the glorious Snowdonia National Park on an 80 mile rail route from Porthmadog - Caernarfon - Blaenau Ffestiniog - Porthmadog. A light continental breakfast will be served on the train as you journey nonstop on the Welsh Highland Railway section from Porthmadog to Caernarfon, hauled by a Garratt.

There will be a tour of the Dinas workshops on the return route which will include a hog roast lunch. Afternoon tea will be served at Tan-y-bwlch on the Ffestiniog Railway line.

It is hoped that historic Carriage number 14 will be included on the train as a Club Car, dispensing refreshments including Snowdonian Real Ale!

Day 3 – Return home

Depart Porthmadog after breakfast, or why not extend your stay to make the most of the attractions in the area.
