The sound of music resonates through the streets of Leipzig, Vienna and Munich - all of which are leading European locations for classical music concerts. Indulge yourself by taking the train and exploring the music and culture of these three cities. Plan your tour around concerts you wish to attend. This itinerary illustrates what is possible and can be adapted. Sightseeing tours, visits and concert tickets can be arranged in advance.

ITINERARY

Day 1

Conveniently timed Eurostar service from London St Pancras to Paris. Overnight hotel.

Day 2

Departing from Gare de l'Est the TGV to Frankfurt makes a connection with an ICE service to Leipzig, arriving late afternoon. City centre hotel for 3 nights.

Days 3 & 4

Free days based in Leipzig. Bach and Wagner had connections with the city and music is still a huge part of the city's culture. The Leipziger Notenspur is a 5km long music trail with 23 points of interest. The city also boasts an extensive tram network to help you move around.

Day 5

A full day by train. Leaving after breakfast the route is via Nuremberg where you change trains and have time for lunch. Arrival into Vienna is early evening. City centre hotel for 7 nights.

Days 6-11

Free days based in Vienna with a public transport ticket. For a first time visit the main attractions should include Stephansdom (cathedral), Spanish Riding School, Opera House and Schönbrunn Palace. Do also find time to enjoy coffee and cake in a traditional Viennese coffee house!

Day 12

The mid-morning Railjet service will take you speedily and in comfort to Munich, arriving 4 hours later. City centre hotel for 7 nights.

Days 13-18

Free days based in Munich. The main sights are all close to the Altstadt (Old Town) and the major galleries are in the area known as Kunstareal.

Day 19

Leave Munich mid-morning on an ICE service to Stuttgart. Change trains here for the TGV service as far as Strasbourg. Overnight hotel.

Day 20

Morning TGV service to Paris, connecting with Eurostar to London St Pancras.
