Operating passenger trains dating back to the Victorian era, the annual Victorian Vintage Gala Weekend is a highlight of the railway’s calendar. Our four night break allows you to explore and immerse yourself in the heritage of the Ffestiniog Railway. This Gala features a timetable of authentic passenger, freight and mixed train services alongside costumed characters.

ITINERARY

Day 1 – Travel to Porthmadog

Travel to Porthmadog (we can arrange and add rail tickets from/to your local station at additional cost) and spend the afternoon at the nearby Italianate village of Portmeirion. Designed and built in the style of a typical Italian fishing village by Welsh architect Sir Clough Williams-Ellis, with its secret gardens, derelict castles, Mediterranean piazza and terracotta roofed houses painted in bright colours.

Days 2 to 4 – Ffestiniog Railway Victorian Vintage Weekend

With a mixture of services operating from dawn to dusk, enjoy the weekend at leisure travelling on board some of the railway’s beautifully restored heritage carriages, not normally used on daily services. Your weekend souvenir guide has detailed information on all timetabled services. A must see is the gravity slate trains.

Day 5 – Depart for Home

After a leisurely breakfast at your accommodation, depart Porthmadog for home, or extend your stay and take a trip on the Welsh Highland Railway to Caernarfon or visit one of the many attractions in the area.
