Series five of BBC Two’s popular ‘Great Continental Railway Journeys’ pulled out of the sidings last week, episode one taking presenter Michael Portillo to Romania, where he travels from Transylvania to the Black Sea. Retrace several of his experiences on Danube Delta & the Carpathians, a 12-day escorted tour that uncovers some of Europe’s last true wilderness areas, visits the annual shepherding festival and traverses the spectacular Carpathian mountains by train. Departing 15 May 2017, the price is from £2,065 pp (two sharing) including flights (London), 11 nights’ accommodation, most meals, rail travel & excursions, and tour leader.
